The company provides solutions in project management, infrastructure support, application support, software testing, software development and training. The bulk of its clients are in the financial services sector. Services are provided by a team of consultants, most of whom are trained in-house.[2]

History

FDM Group started life as Brighton-based IT Services provider FDI, acquiring its current name in 1998 upon a merger with Mountfield Software. Between 1998 and 2010, it expanded its operations into London, Manchester, Zurich, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, New York and Hong Kong.[2] In 2005, the company was floated on AIM.

Business model

FDM's business model is focused on its team of consultants, each of whom specialises in one of the following areas: project management, infrastructure support, application support, software testing, software development and training.[2] Consultants receive free training on condition that they work for FDM's clients for a minimum of two years.

Corporate Social Responsibility

FDM is committed towards Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives by supporting various charities, providing equal opportunities and contributing towards a sustainable environment. The group continues this commitment and will be taking part in The Prince’s Trust Himalayan Action Challenge to help change the lives of the most disadvantaged youth in the UK.[8]

FDM Academy

FDM is one of the UK’s largest IT graduate employers, responsible for launching the careers of IT enthusiasts worldwide. Their award-winning Academy and Master Class Programme bridges the gap between university and employment, equipping aspiring IT Consultants with the right combination of technical skills and commercial expertise; preparing them well for a successful career in IT.[9]

FDM Academy Programme

The Academy Programme transforms individuals into successful IT Consultants through training and commercial experience. Individuals specialise in Java or .Net Development, Testing, Project Management Office, Infrastructure or Application Support, prior to being placed on client sites for a minimum of 2 years.[10]

FDM Master Class Programme

FDM Group has partnered with the University of Brighton to fully fund an MSc in Applied Computer Science. This innovative programme enables graduates to undertake a distance-learning MSc in Applied Computer Science from the University of Brighton whilst gaining industry experience with FDM’s clients.
